TAO TE CHING 61

kor

A great nation

Flows to the lowest place

As the confluence of all below Heaven;

The woman of all below Heaven

Through stillness and serenity

The female always overcomes the male

Through peace and repose

Takes the lowest place

Therefore, a great nation

Places itself below a small nation

And thereby wins it over

A small nation

By submitting to a great nation

Thereby wins it over

Hence,

Sometimes being the lowest wins

Sometimes being the lowest conquers

A great nation does not

Go beyond its desire

To feed and unite the people

A small nation does not

Go beyond its desire

To enter the service of the people

Truly, both of them

Will attain what they desire

When the greatest things always

Place themselves lower than the rest
