Mantras – Peaceful & Wrathful – An Introduction

Okay, let’s talk about mantras. Mantras are chants of sacred syllables, and one of the most powerful spiritual practises. The Hare Krishna mantra is, of course, the most well known, as is ‘Aum.’ The great thing about mantras is that they don’t necessarily have to be chanted out-loud – you can keep them going in your mind at all times, so that, whatever you’re doing you’re always engaged in some kind of spiritual practise – and such continuous practise fruits results very quickly.

Most mantras are associated with different deities and  energy patterns/beings, and therefore have different effects and powers that they convey. In Tibetan Buddhism, these are roughly grouped into two different types – the Peaceful and the Wrathful. The mantras of Peaceful deities are very good for developing peace, tranquillity, wisdom, patience, healing, equanimity and other enlightened qualities. They’re very gentle, reassuring, and loving, though they will still challenge you from time to time, and can reawaken old memories and psychic powers.

The mantras of the wrathful deities are very different, and usually far shorter. They are much more challenging and demanding, but, for that very reason, they get things done a lot quicker. Rather than making us more placid, these mantras generate a huge amount of energy, and make life incredibly more vivid and intense. They have a great fondness for placing you in crazy or strange situations, which force you outside of yourself, and demand you to be more spontaneous, real, or authentic. They will not let you hide from anything! Nor will they hesitate to make you break-down and reduce you to rubble if they think it will do you some good. But, the effects they produce occur incredibly swiftly if one is sincere; and, through them, one can gain powers, awarenesses, memories, and abilities very quickly – you just have to be very brave, as they will always give you far more than you bargained for! Very good for dealing with one’s shadows, personal demons, and visits to the underworld.

It’s usually good to know several mantras for different purposes, and to work with both Peaceful and Wrathful deities, so that you can cultivate both the passive and active/aggressive sides of enlightenment. Usually there will be 1-3 deities that you will develop a close relationship with – though, it’s good to have a strong central one.

Diary of a Mystic: Anubis and DNA

anubis

Duration – over ninety minutes, maybe a hundred. Mantra –Medicine Buddha’s, as I am still feeling unwell today, and it seems to exert a strong effect on me. Almost continual rocking  and shaking throughout, as with yesterday’s meditation. After focusing on making Medicine Buddha’s body my own, one of the first beings I encountered was Anubis, the jackal-headed guardian of the underworld in Egyptian mythology. He was stood in the middle of space, and flailing a red whip around, which may have had a fiery tip. I guess it was appropriate to see him, given the transformation that I’m undergoing. The whip seemed to remind me that all these deaths of the self are all about learning to further tame and subdue the self – it must be subdued and made to hurt a good deal before one finally conquers it. His presence unnerved me at first; but, I quickly assimilated to him and moved on.

Flying through the insides of massive of Egyptian temples – seemingly never-ending corridors of statues of all the great gods. Full-blown Egyptian space cities later in the dream.

I became aware that all of the 97% ‘junk DNA’ that we house in our bodies actually contains a limitless amount of infinite knowledge – no doubt closely connected with the Akashic records and the collective unconscious. I’m sure that if one were to analyze the DNA of spiritually advanced individuals and masters, they would discover far more of the DNA in operation than amongst members of the normal population – also amongst psychics and alien/human hybrids.

I ask to be taught more about love, and am whisked away to a beautiful planet – truly indescribable energy and colours here. I am standing on a tremendous red cliff outside a very beautiful temple with a large spire. I have a blue skin, a large crown, and am bedecked with lots of interesting armour and jewellery; my consort/lover is garbed in much the same kind of gear, has beautiful eyes and blue skin, is very slender and agile, and may have a tail. We look like a cross between Osiris and Isis, and Shiva and Shakti (though, unlike the iconography, both of the women are blue-skinned in this instance). We link together, and I experience being both of us at once. Either two or one – we can separate or come together at will.

I think this is one of the reasons people are so attached to touch in this realm. In other dimensions, to touch another, is truly to become another – here, unless one is very advanced in tantric mysteries, that sense of division and separation still stands, causing a lot of frustration and dissatisfaction.

Yesterday, I saw both Lao Tzu (as Lord Lao on a throne) and The Yellow Emperor – they both resided in extremely lofty heavens. Today, I also saw a being wearing the same shining yellow robes as The Yellow Emperor, but he had a large, dark blue alien head.

The very loving presence of Tara also came to visit me at one time. I took refuge in her enormous green body, and the beautiful green land in which she resides. I also saw Manjushri – accepted his sword of wisdom, and, after, perusing through the book he always carries, I consumed it.

Astral Travel Part 2: UFOs, Dragons, and Tongues

celestial_palace

At one point in my travels, I decided to turn myself into a spaceship. This made me think about the UFO phenomenon. UFOs, whilst having many shapes and types, are usually described as being silent; capable of aerodynamically impossible manoeuvres; moving at incredible speeds; and have the ability to pass between dimensions.

The reason UFOs are able to thwart aerodynamic laws is because they do not operate on aerodynamic principles, but instead, on quantum-holographic principles. UFOs are created by the minds of their inhabitants, and driven by the minds of their inhabitants. The majority of extra-terrestrials are very psychically and spiritually accomplished beings – to think of them only on a physical, earthly level is very ignorant indeed.

I also changed my form into that of a dragon. I could feel myself shifting through the dark avenues of existence, thunder and lightning booming and exploding in time with the contortions of my body.

Towards the end of the meditation, I began to chant spontaneously for about half an hour. The chants sounded as though they were shifting between Chinese, Tibetan, Native American, and a mixture of other languages I wouldn’t be able to place. They kept shifting and changing before settling into a mantra that went:

HEY DA HEY HOOOOOOOO – BUMDELUMDEDADUMDA!

As I chanted this mantra, I felt merged with the deep serenity of the void. The way the mantra kept shifting taught me something about the nature of sound geometry. The language was completely unimportant – rather, it was the way in which I shaped the sound that was most important, vigorously latching it onto the patterns of reality.

Astral Travel: Transformation and The Divine Feminine

astral_travel_by_jacolloy-d4q0idp

Waking up still feeling feverish, I decided I would spend several hours chanting Medicine Buddha’s mantra to stimulate my healing powers within. At the beginning of the meditation I just decided to passively chant the mantra, allowing visions to naturally arise as they pleased. Many of them were of Shiva and Shakti; of wandering across vast desert planes on foreign planets. Sitting in a mountain cave, covered by a waterfall, looking across an infinitely vast chasm, filled with clouds, space, and moisture. Once again, there was imagery relating to the Native Americans.

I focused on my Shakti, on my Divine Feminine, and tuned into the female body that exists within my male body, becoming aware of my breasts, my womb, my vagina, and the different sensation in terms of energetic vibrations. I focused Shiva-lingam energy onto the pearl of my clitoris, and felt waves of high-vibrating pleasure ascending up through my body. It’s no wonder women enjoy sex more than men – the pleasure is much more intense, yet also much more grounded and consistent. It does not peak quickly then wane, as with men, but endures evenly, capable of being prolonged inexhaustibly for those who know the techniques.

Being earthly, women are naturally more grounded than men. Their tranquillity and serenity is far deeper than could ever be fathomed. This is why men have subjugated women for so long – because they are afraid and jealous of their closer connection to the earth, and the inexhaustible supply of magic and energy that gives them access to – pure Shakti energy. Thus, women have been demeaned and separated from the Earth as much as possible. This is also why the current powers that be strive to artificialize women as much as possible, exploiting their insecurities, and brainwashing them into being obsessed with appearances, make-up, security, and a whole of host of frivolous poisons that detract and separate them from the all-powerful divine mother whom they embody. To all women who read this, may you be liberated from the shackles of such attachments, and return joyously to nature, as the divine sorceresses you are.

Once we get to the astral projection portion of my meditation, the use of words becomes far more unsatisfactory. For those who’ve never performed astral projection before, it creates a divided, yet unified sense of experience. Though you’re still conscious of your body sat immobile as you meditate, you will also feel the cosmic sensations of your etheric body as you project it through different dimensions. There is a mind-split involved here, which may feel uncomfortable at first. But, the more you become accustomed to maintaining trance, and the practice of using separate senses simultaneously – in this instance, internal chanting and visualization – then the more that split feels natural and unified. You even become aware, during your waking life, that such splits are occurring all the time, and that your various thought bodies are often off wandering in other places and dimensions, whilst your physical body is engrossed in its own activities.

The longer you maintain awareness and control over your etheric body, the more solid and crystallized your etheric body feels. As with anything, the experience becomes much more stable and expansive the more you practice it. In fact, making your etheric body dwell in a single spot, as though meditating, and imagining it crystallizing, as though into a golden statue, is one of the best ways of further reifying it.

I visited an amazing crystal castle in space, which had a very robust healing energy to it, especially if one stood in the central room, below the elevated spire. The crystal was all a sort of light-bluey quartz color. It made me think about King Ludwig II of Bavaria, and made me wonder whether it was memory of such places that impelled him to build his incredible, fairy-tale castles.

One of the most liberating and exciting thing about the etheric body, is that it can take on any form you direct it to. The initial form I usually take on is that of a Buddha, bodhisattva, or god with whom I have a strong relationship. The Buddha body is usually an ideal one, because it is very easy to drive, and one can use the energetic powers of his top-knot and third eye to illuminate all sorts of fascinating realms and worlds. But, all forms are capable of taking on any kind of amazing transformations at the drop of a thought.

One of the interesting experiences for me this time round is that, not only can we take on the forms of animals and beings, but also of vehicles, planets, buildings, boats, and houses – or just be formless and empty, like the vapours of space. It is very fun to experiment with these different bodies, the alchemical actions that occur as a result, as well as the knowledge one acquires through experimenting with different incarnations.

Most exciting of all is realizing that you can transform the etheric body to be many things at once, manifesting yourself as a whole plethora of beings and things. I even experienced creating a hole world, and manifesting individually – yet multifariously – as every being and thing on it. I imagined separating myself into an infinite multitude of bodhisattvas, who I could spread in all directions, to all possible worlds, to liberate as many living being as possible.

Of course, at this level, I realized that all beings are essentially ephemeral creations thought momentarily into existence by the universal mind, and that, as The Diamond Sutra says, there are really no beings to save. Though, of course, until all beings realize that, I still have a lot of work to do!

Learning to be formless and all-embracing is definitely a skill I would recommend all beings to master

Love: The Crazy Uninvited Guest

fire

In its original formless form, love is pure and without bounds, the very substance of radiant nothingness. At this level, it is still perfect and incorruptible, filled with the limitless potential of becoming.

However, as this love puts forth, and descends through the lesser vehicles of reality, its infinite nature begins to become compressed and imprisoned within narrower and narrower forms, such as those of the human being.

As the ultimacy of love appears within the human being, it evokes many responses. There is likely to be both joy and ruination; pain and euphoria; self-consciousness and selfless; the ego shattering, and along with it, the framework of everything we understand – this is what happens when the infinite takes up residence in the finite.

Much of the pain and anguish comes from the death throes of the ego – its last narcissistic cries of ‘WHAT ABOUT ME?’ before it is extinguished in the fires of love. The ego does not want to die – it wants to cling onto you and imprison you forever. But, love is stronger than it, and will eventually always prevail over it.

When those feelings collide with the body and the ego, there is ineluctably the desire to turn these feelings into actions. In its original state it is so intangible and elusive – we are terrified of the fact that it holds us – that we do not hold it – and so we desperately try and find a way of transmuting it into a physical form that we can take hold of – even though the physical is infinitely more perishable than the non-physical.

We want to turn those feelings into a relationship – into something with a definable purpose and name – something safe that we can take refuge in, instead of being overwhelmed by.

But, in the process, we confine the limitless and make it limited, crippling it with expectations and intentions as to how it should be.

So, what if we were to take the Taoist approach? What if, instead of forcing that love into an intended outcome, we just let it be – I love, therefore I am? Instead of trying to make it be something, we just let it be as it is.

It’s a bit like inviting a crazy eccentric into your house. You have heard a lot of people talk of this madman, and his bizarre ways, but you have never met him yourself, and have no real idea of what he might do. The typical human route would be to set up a strict itinerary of things to do with this potentially volatile guest – dinner, music, conversation, party games – anything to try and keep them docile – anything to keep them momentarily from their burning desire, which is to tear your home to pieces.

So, what if we do the opposite? The guest comes in – we have no idea what he’s going to do – and we just let him do it? If he wants to tear up the house, he can tear up the house. If he wants to shit on the carpet, he can shit on the carpet. If he wants to hurl sweets at kittens, well then, he can do just that. Because, love is the king – not the guest. We have been deluded all along. This is not our house at all. He is merely taking back what is rightfully his own.

And then what happens? I guess we’ll always just have to give it a try, and experience the results! Happy ruination!

Blog: Totem Poles and The Unity of Life

Totem

This week, I had the privilege to visit The World Museum in Liverpool, where an entire exhibit on the third floor is devoted to preserving artifacts of ancient cultures all around the world. On this magical and spiritual journey, I was able to look directly into the eyes of African dance masks; tremulously admire Congolese idols used for black magic and sorcery; and regard with wonder the fold-out books of a hieroglyphic Mayan ‘dream book.’ I came face to face with statues of Vishnu and Ganesha; priceless suits of samurai armor; Buddhist hanging scrolls and Tantric deities straight from Tibet; and beheld with awesome fear relics that were never meant to be witnessed outside of ancient secret societies and mystery schools.

I was in this large, circuitous exhibit mostly by myself, with the pregnant silence only occasionally interrupted by tribal drumming and chanting bursting out of the speaker system. As in the Egyptian exhibit at Bristol, I once again had the mystical experience of being confronted with a spiritual presence far greater than myself, overwhelming me with raw emotion. This presence commanded great awe and respect, and I was repeatedly moved to press my hands together, bow, and chant, in order to properly express my deference.

But, overwhelmed and humbled though I was, nothing could have prepared me for The Totem Pole. As I rounded the corner, and was confronted with a deific figure towering above me, its face frozen in a martial rictus, I was so frightened that I had to retreat for a moment to sit down, and stitch back together the thread of my courage.

Composure regained, I tentatively re-entered the room, building myself up to it by looking at the other exhibits. But towering at between 15-20ft tall, it really was the proverbial elephant in the room, commanding every part of my being to kowtow to it with my attention.

The totem itself was a chimaerical hybrid of human, animal, and spiritual elements, effortlessly fusing a man, a killer whale, a serpent, and two mythical giants into one single, phallic entity.

Once I observed this unity, my fear began to subside. Despite its fearsome appearance, I realized that the pole was not an apotropaic structure, but a potent symbol eloquently depicting the holographic truth of the ineffable unity of all things. Man, Nature, and Heaven are not separate from one another, but are one another, interwoven so that all things are within them, and they are within all things – a true hologram.

This truth was so evident to the Native Canadian artist, Richard Hunt, that I was amazed to learn that the human head on top was actually a self-portrait. These animals, these ancestors, these myths were so much a part of him so as to actually constitute his very being.

If only we were all so in-tune with the world as to recognize it as our being, and to recognize our being as the world.

Adventure Time and Metaphysics

The older I’ve gotten, and the further I’ve waded into the strange, miasmic pool of adulthood, the less ‘adult’ my interests have become, and the more and more I find myself attracted to cartoons.

When I watch adult dramas or movies, I feel underwhelmed and bored to misery: the realities they depict are so narrow and limited that I often feel like I am being subjected to the cinematic equivalent of a tax return, or the dramatization of a particularly dreary Post Office queue. But when I watch cartoons, I feel excited, awe-inspired, humbled, and often receive immense insights from them that a more ‘adult’ vehicle would do their best to quash.

Take the above link to an episode of Adventure Time. Not only is it a delightful foray into the humorous, the zany, and the wild, but it also incandescently illustrates a truth which almost all ‘mature’ media do their best to downplay:

THAT THE IMAGINATION IS THE ARCHITECT OF ALL THAT WE EXPERIENCE

But, because the world is much slower and less obviously elastic than that of cartoons, people forget this point: that they are authors of all their troubles, and the composer of all their bliss.

This is why it is crucial to populate the mind with as much good as possible. Fill it with angels, Buddhas, deities, flowers, charm, and grace. If you’re going to fill it with demons or monsters, do so only for the satisfaction of developing the strength to slay them. Use the mind as the playground in which you can test out all possible truths. That’s what god does with his mind. You can do the same in yours too.

This is what Krishna devotees say about their famous Creator, The Lord of Yoga; that all of reality, and that which is manifested, is a product of his cosmic play, his jungle-gym spanning the webs and plexi of many dimensions.

SO PLAY FOR GOODNESS SAKES!

Don’t you remember being a child, out in the playground during breaks at school, and how you and your compadres would spend this wonderful allotment of space building realities with one another, harvesting your imagination, and generating whole multi-levelled storylines on the spot?

WHY DON’T WE DO THAT ANYMORE?!

Not only is it fun, but it actively makes the world a better place!

The reason we have been incarnated on this planet is to acquire discipline and knowledge. But once we have learned all that we need to learn, and learned to control our minds thoroughly, then we will be ready to ascend beyond this planet to higher dimensions where all is mind, all is thought.

There, all our responsibilities and troubles on Earth will seem insignificant compared to our new roles as builders of galaxies, and frontiersmen of infinity, as knights of knowledge, and agents of enlightenment.

But only through acquiring wisdom, self-control and maturity now, will we be prepared for these amazing, dimension-shaping responsibilities later on.

How can we do that?

Use your imagination! Be mature – watch cartoons!

Let them be the expanders of the mind that you will one day use to create the world anew, as you are even doing right this moment!

But when things get too intense, just remember that it is all a product of your imagination. Like, Jake and Finn, you possess your own off-switch. You can always calibrate your own creations. Just don’t turn off the switch completely until you’re to enter the Ein Soph of the Bornless Beyond and embrace The Beautiful Abyss.
